Hallo an alle draußen vor den Bildschirmen,

heute wollen wir euch mal etwas über das kleine Schwarze erzählen. Hmm was, Kleid? Wer hat hier was von einem Kleid gesagt? Bleibt uns bloß weg damit! Nein, wir meinen natürlich unser kleines schwarzes Notizbuch!

Da ich (DarkFairy) ein Mensch bin, dem die besten Ideen immer an den seltsamsten Orten kommen und vor allem immer dann wenn nichts zu schreiben da ist, habe ich mir bereits im Sommer 2009 ein Notizbuch eigens für „Warlords“ angeschafft. Ja, schon damals war ich so sehr von unserer Geschichte überzeugt, dass alles was mir dazu einfiel an einem Platz gesammelt werden und nicht wie all meine anderen Ideen auf hunderten von Zetteln verstreut in einer Schublade liegen sollte.
Nun gut, dieses Notizbuch also sollte von nun an ein (fast) ständiger Begleiter werden. Und hatte ich es doch mal nicht dabei, wurde entweder alles ordentlich von den Zetteln übertragen, oder aber die Zettel zumindest dort hinein gelegt.

Es ist ja meistens so das man selten aus den Notizen anderer Menschen schlau wird, aber ehrlich gesagt werde ich selber nicht mal mehr aus allem schlau was da drin steht… Oft sind es nur einzelne Sätze, ohne Zusammenhang.
Was sollte das bloß mit diesem „Ehrliche Arbeit verdient ehrlichen Lohn“? Ich komm einfach nicht… HA! Ich glaub jetzt weiß ich es wieder. Was? Oh… ‚tschuldigung ich bin abgeschweift.

Naja immer dann, wenn PoiSon und ich uns getroffen haben, haben wir das Notizbuch auch immer und überall dabei gehabt. Letztes Jahr war die häufigste Frage die wir uns gestellt haben, bevor wir zum Metalfest oder zum W:O:A gefahren sind: „Das Notizbuch hast du, oder?“ Und wenn es dann mal nicht da war, wurde panisch danach gesucht.
Ja, wir haben tatsächlich irgendwo zwischen hunderten von Metalheads auf dem Boden gesessen und Ideen in unser kleines Schwarzes gekritzelt. Wahlweise wurden ein paar Skizzen auch auf einer zuvor „erworbenen“ Serviette gezeichnet, die ebenfalls im Notizbuch landete. Da wurde dann hinten und vorne und überall immer wieder was ergänzt, sodass ein riesiger unsortierter Wust an Sätzen, Satzfragmenten und Dialogpassagen entstanden ist und gelegentlich immer noch entsteht. So viel zum Einblick in unsere „kreative Planung“ :D Ja wir sind leicht chaotisch, aber ist es etwas Schlechtes, wenn man das mag, was man tut? (Und trotzdem noch halbwegs durchsieht, was man da tut? XD)

Und weil wir so chaotisch sind haben wir auch ein sehr großes Problem mit unseren Texten: Kommasetzung – und gelegentlich Grammatik im generellen, aber dazu mehr wenn wir wieder zu den Outtakes fürs nächste Kapitel kommen.
Egal wie oft wir unser Geschriebenes lesen, egal wie oft es andere lesen: Jeder findet jedes Mal irgendwo, irgendein Komma, dass noch fehlt oder ganz selten auch zu viel ist.

Wenn das „kleine Schwarze“ unser bester Freund ist, dann sind die Kommas unsere ärgsten Feinde. Wir gehören zu den Menschen, die einfach drauf los schreiben und dann erst nachlesen, was da überhaupt bei raus gekommen ist. Dadurch ging und geht uns natürlich das ein oder andere Komma verloren. Vor allem aber, weil wir die Kommasetzung komplett nach Gefühl und Klang des Satzes machen. Dadurch haben wir beim Überarbeiten schon einige gefunden, aber scheinbar haben wir noch immer nicht alle erwischt…

Es gibt ja mittlerweile diesen Spruch „Kommas retten Leben“, aber nicht nur das, sie retten auch den Sinn manch eines Satzes. Besonders wenn man einen Faible für lange und sonst undurchsichtige Sätze hat. Nur leider werden dann die Verständnis-Kommas gesetzt, aber die anderen dann vergessen.
Wir haben noch einen harten Kampf gegen die fiesesten Satzzeichen überhaupt vor uns und dann kann uns leider auch kein noch so akribisch geführtes Notizbuch helfen.
Aber immerhin steht die Story dann und einen Kommasetzungs-Experten sollte sich auch finden.

The little black one against the commas

Hello everyone in front of the screens,

today we’d like to tell you something about the little black one. Hmm what, dress? Who said anything about a dress? Just keep those away from us! No, we mean the little black notebook, of course!

As I (DarkFairy) am a person, who gets the best ideas in the strangest of places and especially if there is nothing to write, I acquired a notebook specifically for „Warlords“ in summer 2009. Yes, even back then I was that confident in our story, that I everything I thought of about it that to be collected in one place and not like my other ideas spread onto hundreds of pages lying in a drawer.
Well, said notebook should from that moment on become a (nearly) steady companion. And did I not have it with me on an occasion, everything would be thoroughly transfered from the notes to the pages, or at least the notes would be put into it.

It is mostly the case that other people aren’t able to make head nor tail from others, but honestly I don’t get them all the times either…Often times it are only sentences, without context.
What should that be with this „Honest work earns honest money“? I just can’t think of..HA! I think I have it. What? Oh…’scuse me I digressed.

However, when PoiSon and I had met, we had the notebook with us all the time and everywhere we went. Last year was the most frequently asked question we asked ourself, before we went to the Metalfest or the W:O:A: „You have the notebook, right?“ And in the case it wasn’t there we would be looking for it in panic.
Yes, we really sat on the ground amongst hundreds of Metalheads and scribbled down ideas into our little black one. Alternatively some sketches were made on a previously „acquired“ serviette, which ended up in the notebook as well. New stuff was added in the back, the front and everywhere so that a tangled mass of sentences, fragments of such and dialog passages was created and occasionally is still added.  (If you like to read more about our Metalfest visit you can read PoiSon’s report for it: *click*)
So much for an inside look into our „creative planning“ :D Yes we are slightly chaotic, but is it something bad if you like what you do? (And still be able to see somewhat through what you are doing? XD)

And because we are that chaotic we have one big problem with our texts: comma placement – and occasionally grammar in general, but more to this when we talk about our Outtakes for the next chapter.
It doesn’t matter how often we read what’s been written, it doesn’t matter how often others read it: Everyone finds every time any comma, which is still missing or in rare cases is too much.

If the „little black one“ is our best friend, then the commas are our worst enemy. We belong to those people, that just write down and read afterwards, what was we created there. Through this we missed and miss one or the other comma. But mostly because we place the commas intuitively or by sound of the sentence. Through this we found several while editing, but apparently we still haven’t caught every one.

By now there is the saying „Commas save lives“, but not only that, they also save the sense of a sentence. Especially if you have a liking for long and obscure sentences. Unfortunately in this cases the understanding-commas are set, but the others are missed.
We still have an uphill struggle against the most mean punctuation marks ever ahead of us and not even the most painstakingly written notebook can help you with that.
But at least the story is finished and a comma placement-expert could still be found:
